[Meteorologists’ Joint Statement on the Climate Crisis] Archived video from the event commemorating the first anniversary of the announcement is now available
We have released an archived video of the event commemorating the first anniversary of the announcement of the [Meteorologists’ Joint Statement on the Climate Crisis]
On June 5th of last year, 44 weather forecasters came together to issue the “Joint Statement by Meteorologists and Weather Presenters on the Climate Crisis,” which aims to connect lives and the future by “communicating the link between everyday weather and climate change.” At this event, seven weather presenters throughout Japan reported on examples of their reporting after the statement was made.
As climate change becomes more severe, weather forecasts and news reports, which are so familiar to consumers, provide a great opportunity to become aware of the causes of the extreme weather we experience.
The video has contents of:
・The new programs and initiatives that started after the Joint Statement
・How to deal when running out of content
・Introducing Ingenious ways of communicating, such as programs that viewers and listeners can participate
・Future prospects, such as a survey plan to coincide with the “89% Project” (a global collaborative reporting on climate change)
It’s full of hints for accelerating this movement! Please take a look.
Speakers:
◼︎Hiroko Ida (Chairman for Weather Forecaster Network Chairman)
◼︎Akira Masaki (Weather Forecaster for Asahi Broadcasting)

It is very encouraging that so many cases have emerged in just one year since the announcement, and we would like to express our sincere gratitude to all the weather forecasters who are working hard on the ground every day. As MEDIA IS HOPE, we will continue to support. We hope that this solidarity will continue to expand in the future!
■ Organizer: Team WFCC(Weather Forecasters against the Climate Crisis)
This is a collaborative group of weather forecasters formed by supporters of the [Joint Statement on the Climate Crisis by Meteorologists and Weather Casters], endorsed by 44 meteorologists and weather casters active in Tokyo and across the country. We work to connect lives and the future by “communicating the link between everyday weather and climate change.” We look forward to hearing from meteorologists and weather casters who agree with us, as well as media personnel and various other stakeholders. By strengthening collaboration and cooperation with experts and media both in Japan and abroad, meteorologists and weather casters will become a bridge to resolving the climate crisis.
